Evelyn Caldwell

Evelyn Caldwell, 95, of Spartanburg, SC died Friday, December 5, 2014 at Windsor House Assisted Living. She was born July 27, 1919 in Grand Cascapedia, Quebec, Canada, to the late Leslie and Emma Dow Barter. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, the late Joseph George Caldwell. Evelyn and her family left Canada and came to the United States in 1953 and they became citizens in 1958. She became interested in art, and painted numerous still-life paintings for friends and family. In 1971, she graduated the University of South Carolina Spartanburg in the second graduating class as a Registered Nurse. She was employed with Doctors Griffin, Pratt and Stretcher until she retired in June, 1989 to enjoy her golden years and travel with her husband. She was a member of Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Anita (Don) Cathcart of Spartanburg, SC; two sons, Joseph George (Jacquelyn) Caldwell of Spartanburg, SC; and Charles (Nancy) Caldwell of Canton, Georgia; six grandchildren, Donald Cathcart of Spartanburg, SC; Dean Cathcart of Spartanburg, SC; Katie Caldwell and Andrew Caldwell of Atlanta, GA; Christopher and Steven Caldwell of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Bob Barter of Grand Cascapedia, Quebec, Canada; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Caldwell. Graveside services will be private.
