Eugenia Caroline Carter McDowell, 68, of Pauline, died Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 20, 1943, in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Walter Eugene and Sara Elizabeth Wilder Carter. She was a former employee of Spartanburg County School District 6 and retired from the office of Attorney David G. White prior to her illness. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Lewis Edward McDowell, Jr.; children, Teresa M. Messer of Boiling Springs, Lewis Edward III and Kristin McDowell of Lyman, William Travis and Amber McDowell of Boiling Springs, and Amanda Kay and Nathan McAbee of Spartanburg; son-in-law, Barry Messer of Pauline; sister and brother-in-law, Ella Jane and Francis Johnson; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joshua C. Jennings. Following the committal service in the church cemetery, visitation will be in the Family Life Center of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Philadelphia Baptist Church Family Life Center Fund, P.O. Box 220, Pauline, SC 29374. The family is at the home.
