Laurens Eugene Wright, Jr., 95, of Clifton, SC, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at RoseCrest Community Healthcare. Mr. Wright was born July 25, 1921, the son of the late Laurens Eugene Wright, Sr. and Ina Gertrude Drummond Wright and the husband of 60 years to the late Norma Whitt Wright. Surviving are a daughter, Jeannie W. Gibbs (Gary) of Lake Bowen, SC; sons, David Wright (Susan) of Mayo, SC, and Larry Wright (Rhonda) of the home; four grandchildren, Gary Gibbs, Jr., Caroline Gibbs Smith, Jessica Wright, and Ashley Wright; five great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Madison, and Lily Gibbs, Grayson and Grant Smith; and a brother, James E. Wright of Greer, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by six sisters Helen Wood, Lucy Gregory, Sara Worthen, Elizabeth May, Annie Belle, and Agnes Claire Wright; and three brothers, Thomas Spencer, John Henry, and Walter Simpson Wright; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Beth Gibbs. Eugene was a member of Clifton Second Baptist Church and had a longtime career in the textile industry. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from July 31, 1942 and was honorably discharged on February 16, 1946. He served his country at Fort Knox, KY, Europe, the Philippines, and Japan. A graveside service, with military rites, will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, March 17, 2017, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. David Chastain and the Rev. David Moore. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
