Eugene Charles Brock, 79, of Moore, died July 26, 2023 at his home. He was born in Miami, Florida July 27, 1943 to Clyde and Anne Nelson Brock.
Gene’s family roots date back to the founding of Spartanburg County, which helped him know every shortcut, fishing hole and backroad restaurant across the region. He had a wry sense of humor, clever wit and inquisitive mind. He was a self-taught master of many things and could fix anything he set his mind to.
Gene always had a good story to share and those who knew him have memorable tales of being with him, from fishing in the Chesapeake Bay to hunting in Idaho, diving in Bimini or just sitting around a campfire roasting oysters.
Gene cherished time hunting and fishing with his sons and buddies, and loved to spend hours discussing science and philosophy with his daughter and all others who’d listen. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, SCUBA diving, waterskiing and skeet shooting, which he did shooting from the hip better than most using a sight.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; son Michael Eugene Brock (Samantha); and sister Gail Brock Campbell.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Becky Austin Brock; son Terry Stephen (Jill) Brock; daughter Victoria Lynn (Mark) Jones; grandchildren Taylor and Alex Brock, Eli Jones, Cheyenne Brock and Crystal Brock; a sister, Janet Brock Weide and half-sisters Melanie Jennings and Julie Berry; and three great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Patriot Hospice for their care.
