Eugene Earl Cato, 86, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born, July 16, 1924, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Oscar Cauthen and Verna Angel Cato, and husband of the late Flora Stacey Seals Cato. "Cato" was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Duke Energy after 34 years of service. He worked with the Piedmont Interstate Fair Association for over 50 years and was a Board member. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Club, a trustee, and elected trustee emeritus for life in 2008. Survivors include his daughter, Vicky Cato Ammons (Chris) of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Christy Ammons Senn (Conrad) of Greenville; grandsons, James Christopher Ammons III (Allison) of Easley, and Kevin Cato Ammons (Kristen) of Charlotte; great-grandsons, Blake Senn, Alex Senn, Tyler Senn, Jay Ammons IV, Ryan Ammons, and Grady Ammons; great-granddaughters, Ashley Cato Ammons, Hollis Ammons, and Maren Ammons. He was predeceased by a brother, Oscar Cauthen Cato; and a sister, Phoebie Cato Goolsby. Visitation will be 1:15-1:45 PM Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard D. Lewis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
