Ethelrene Hogg Brooks, 87, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 12, 1924, in Barnwwell County, SC, she was the widow of Stephen A. Brooks, Jr., and daughter of the late George M. and Banner Brant Hogg. Mrs. Brooks was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the health and visitation ministry. She was formerly employed with Dr. S. S. Ray, III, as a dental hygienist. Survivors include her daughter, Caroline B. Ruppe (Bobby E.) of Spartanburg; grandsons, SFC Stephen B. Ruppe and Brooks S. Ruppe, both of Spartanburg; sister, Evelyn Wall of Newberry, SC; and a brother, Will R. Hogg of Barnwell, SC. She was predeceased by a brother, Wiley Hogg; and three sisters, Gem Sanders (Mrs. Brooks's twin), Edna Hogg, and Ruth Hiers Drawdy. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Emily Edenfield and the Rev. Mike Shackleford. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
