Ethel Viola Pearson Helton, 80, of Greenville, SC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at her home surrounded by family. Born June 24, 1931, in Cliffside, NC, she was the widow of Donald E. Helton, and daughter of the late Newell and Ola Womack Pearson. Ethel was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a great love for her family and delighted in working with the Women's Circle at her church, Ben Avon United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. She was the retired owner of Helton's Fabrics and Sportswear and an avid reader. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi and Mike McCall of Greenville; and granddaughter, Carmen Chisholm of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Helton Chisholm; sisters, Mary Alice Stacey and Annie Mae Bridges; and brother, Jimmy Pearson. The family will receive friends 12:15 - 1:00 PM Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Ben Avon United Methodist Church, 2360 Avondale Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302. A memorial service honoring her life will follow at 1:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Jones Brewer. Private burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Ben Avon United Methodist Church, 2360 Avondale Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302; Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621; or to a charity of your choice.
