Ethel S. Guest, 90, of Cowpens, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born October 24, 1920, in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Addie Gossett Spencer and wife of the late Ernest Ray "Thad" Guest. Mrs. Guest was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and retired from Spartan Mills. Survivors include two daughters, Jean Guest Arnold and her husband Don of Cowpens, and JoAnn Guest Godfrey and her husband Cecil of Mayo, SC; a grandson, Steve Godfrey and his wife Sherry of Mayo, SC; three granddaughters, Donna Godfrey Smith and her husband Randy of Mayo, SC, Deborah Godfrey Kelly and her husband Craig of Spartanburg, SC, and Cynthia Arnold Mattox and her husband Dan of Gadsen, AL; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Kelly of Spartanburg, SC; a great-grandson, Daniel Mattox of Gadsen, AL; a brother, Joe Carroll Spencer and his wife Betty of Laurens, SC; and a sister-in-law, Josie Spencer of Spartanburg, wife of Ethel's late brother, Hugh Spencer. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 PM Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Cowpens, SC. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Kirby, Jr., the Rev. Allen Dean Blanton, and the Rev. Dr. Don Arnold. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Church Building Fund, 250 Mt. Olive Road, Cowpens, SC 29330 or Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family wishes to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for their care and compassion.
