Esther Verstegen

Esther Norma Marie Hackbarth Verstegen, 98, of Spartanburg and Woodruff, SC and formerly of Milwaukee, WI, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at Woodruff Manor. Born February 21, 1918, in Milwaukee, she was the daughter of the late William Friedrich Hackbarth and Emma Schmit Hackbarth and widow of Helmuth Joseph Verstegen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Verstegen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She retired from Globe Union and volunteered for several organizations. She was a volunteer and member of the American Cancer Society Outreach and Recovery Program and Memorial Chairman of the American Cancer Society. She also volunteered with Spartanburg Regional Medical Heart Center, cancer ward, and gift shop as well as Mountainview Nursing Home. She received the M. M. Angel Award for services with Mobile Meals where she volunteered as a driver for 25 years. At her request, there will be no services. Private entombment will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Wauwatosa, WI by Schmidt-Bartelt Funeral Home. The J. F.
