Ernestine Holland White, 93, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at her home. Born May 30, 1916, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. Holland, Sr. and Patra Bearden Holland and the wife of 56 years to the late James Nelson White, Sr. A 1936 graduate of Converse College, she was a teacher in Spartanburg School District 7, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Circle #4, and the Loyalty Sunday School Class, the Garden and Literature Club, having served as president, A.A.U.W., National Education Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Retired Teacher's Association. She taught piano and music for many years. Survivors include a grandson, Bradley Seth White of Spartanburg; three sisters, Frances H. Hardy, Dorothy H. Snyder, and Hazel H. Belk, all of Spartanburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Ernestine Holland (Holly) White; and a son, James Nelson White, Jr. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles A. Graves and the Rev. David B. Smith. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
