Erman Yates Hammett, 90, of Pacolet, SC, died Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. He was born September 7, 1925, in Cherokee County, a son of the late Bee and Nezzie Rachel Martin Hammett. Mr. Hammett was retired as a welder foreman with Vulcan Materials after 35 years of service. He attended Pacolet First Baptist Church and was a World War II U. S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Smith Hammett; sons, Bruce Hammett (Denise) of Lexington, SC and Norman Hammett (Renea) of Converse, SC; daughter, Starr Erwin (Steven) of Boiling Springs, SC; grandsons, Matthew Hammett, Ryan Hammett, and Nathan Erwin; granddaughters, Courtney Elizabeth Hammett and Haley Erwin; six great-grandchildren; and brother, John P. Hammett (Shirley) of Greensboro, NC. He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Sarah Jean Elise Hammett; and a grandson, Norman Brooks Hammett. Visitation will be 1:00 - 1:45 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel, 141 Memorial Drive, Pacolet, SC 29372. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard Stone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pacolet First Baptist Church, 310 West Main Street, Pacolet, SC 29372. The family is at the home.
