Elsie Groce

October 9, 1926 — May 16, 2021

Elsie Mae Wyatt Groce, 94, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, May 16, 2021, at the home of her son. Born October 9, 1926 in the Golightly community of Spartanburg, SC, Elsie was the daughter of the late Lillie Mae Thomas Wyatt and Boyce Wyatt. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold W. Groce.

She was a faithful member of Golightly United Methodist Church. After retiring from Spartanburg Sportswear, she spent many years as caregiver to countless friends and family. Elsie was also a member of the Order of Amaranth of Piedmont Court #14.

Survivors include her son, Wilbur Groce (Mellie) of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughters, Kim Ross (Jimmie) of Landrum, SC and Jill Rose (Jeremy) of Nashville, TN; brother, Robert Wyatt (Pat) of Boiling Springs, SC; sister, Mary Lou Walters of Spartanburg, SC; a special niece, Betty White of Spartanburg, SC, and six great-grandchildren, JJ, Bethany, Caleb and Elsie Grace Rose of Nashville, TN and Nicholas and Ben Ross of Landrum, SC. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Groce, Betty Ruth Wyatt, Mabel Wyatt, Virginia Henderson, and granddaughter, Bethany Groce, all of Spartanburg, SC.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, May 21, 2021 at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 3119 Hwy 59, Pauline, SC 29374, conducted by The Rev. Jeremy Rose. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Golightly United Methodist Church c/o Dot Lee, Treasurer, 425 Gibson Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
