Elizabeth Upton

Elizabeth Ellen Johnson Abernathy Upton, 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, September 4, 2014, at her home. Born October 29, 1922, in Pulaski, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Boyd Johnson and Alma Edmunds Johnson. Mrs. Upton was retired from Commercial Credit Company. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and attended Winthrop College. Survivors include her sister, Margie J. Hembree of Boiling Springs, SC; sister-in-law, Loretta W. Johnson of Inman, SC; four nieces; and four nephews. The family expresses special thanks to all her caregivers, especially Mary Littlejohn who was with her for many years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Horace H. Abernathy and second husband, Lex T. Upton; and brothers, Arthur Boyd Johnson, Jr. and Phillip E. Johnson, Sr. A graveside service will be conducted at 5:00 PM Sunday, September 7, 2014, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Chris Kurtz.
