Elizabeth Luenstroth, age 99, died peacefully at the Laurens County Hospital in Clinton, SC, on Friday, May 15, 2009. She was very active in church activities throughout her life, including serving as the first female deacon at Normandy Presbyterian Church, St. Louis, MO.; was a member of Second Presbyterian Church for 17 years; and served as a volunteer missionary in Tague, Korea for a year. She was a strong advocate and was also active in the Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She was proud of her roles of wife and mother. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Delbert H. Cleland and Lillian Ester Sutton Cleland and was born in Lebanon, OH. She was married to the late Harold William Luenstroth for 37 years. She is survived by three daughters, Jan Goodman and her husband Grayson of Spartanburg; Joyce Luenstroth of Norfolk, VA; and Jane Rozsnafszky and her husband George of Muse, OK; and one son, James W. Luenstroth of Spartanburg. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in Price Hall of Second Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg. The memorial funeral service will follow at 11:30 in the Church Sanctuary conducted by the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, P. O. Box 1267, Columbia, SC 29202-1267.
