Elizabeth "Liz" Bakis Harakas, 77, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Born July 2, 1937, in Florence, SC, she was the daughter of the late Angel Chris Bakis and Penelope Zorbala Bakis. Mrs. Harakas attended Coker College and was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. She was a "Bou" lady at Stein Mart where she worked for 15 years, a member of the Spartanburg Pride Task Force and was instrumental in organizing the placement of hanging baskets in the downtown area, which lead to her being known as "The Basket Lady". Surviving are her loving husband of 57 years, Nicholas George Harakas; children, George Nicholas Harakas II (Rosemary), Chris Nicholas Harakas (Donna), and Timothy Nicholas Harakas (Joy), all of Spartanburg, SC, and Venetta H. Mallis (James) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Matthew Jennings Harakas, Hannah Harakas Rountree, Elizabeth Blair Kyle, Sarah Alexis Harakas, Nicholas Milton Harakas, Margaret Rose Harakas, Samuel Timothy Harakas, Alexis Nicole Mallis, James Nicholas Mallis, and Christopher James Mallis; brother, Demetrios Bakis (Cheryl) of Mooresville, NC; and sister, Frances Bakis Pistolis (Athas John-Fr. Tom) of Greenville, SC. Visitation will be 6:00 - 9:00 PM, with a Trisagion Prayer Service at 7:30 PM, on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 697 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29303, by the Rev. George F. Nayfa and the Rev. Athas John Pistolis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
