Elizabeth Lake "Betsy" Green, 78, of 297 Bethesda Drive, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Magnolia Manor. Born April 25, 1931 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jennings Lewis and Elizabeth Lake Thompson and the widow of Jack Darwin Green. Mrs. Green was a medical transcriptionist for the three local hospitals and secretary for many local physicians. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Green Langdale of Charleston and Eve Green Szwapa of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, Anthony Fernandez, Kathrine Milligan, Olivia and Annelise Gilmer; a great-granddaughter, Rylie Dangerfield; a brother, Jay Thompson of Myrtle Beach; and a close family friend and caregiver, Phil Wall. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
