Elizabeth Ragan Gilliam, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, peacefully went home on Monday, September 23, 2013. She was the wife of the late George W. Gilliam of Spartanburg. Born December 4, 1923, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Vernon Ragan Sr. and Maggie Carter Ragan. Mrs. Gilliam worked at Roses Department Store for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Survivors include a brother, John Ragan and his wife Kay; a daughter and son-in-law, Frieda and George Splawn of Roebuck; three sons, Steve, Eric, and Butch Gilliam, all of Spartanburg; son-in-law, Oscar Hughey of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Debbie Roberson, April Parton, Scott and Gary Roberson, Tracy Splawn, Justin Gilliam, and Erica Gilliam; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Pat Hughey; and grandson, David Roberson. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, September 26, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Sal Barone. Visitation will follow at the graveside. The family is at the home.
