Elaine Painter Tate, 86, of Moore, died Tuesday morning, August 8, 2023, at Spartanburg Medical Center. She was born January 31, 1937, in Spartanburg, a daughter of the late John Claude Painter, Jr. and Florence Wood Painter. Elaine was married to the late Jesse Boyd Tate.
Elaine was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Cecil’s Business College. She retired from Reeves Brothers. A member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Elaine was active in the Senior Adult Ministries and the Earnest Workers Sunday School Class.
Elaine was predeceased by a son, Christopher Boyd Tate. She is survived by two sons, John “Mark” Tate (Diane) of Spartanburg, and David “Glen” Tate (Jeanna) of Roebuck; four grandchildren, Andrew Gordon Tate, Olivia Michelle Tate, John David Tate, and William Christopher Tate; and her sister, Pamela “Pammy” Painter Tipton (Gary) of Boiling Springs.
The family will receive friends 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 797 Old Georgia Road, Moore, SC 29369. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the sanctuary, conducted by the Reverend Joe Burnett. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
