Eileen Nolen

Eileen Ramsbottom Nolen, 92, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, August 1, 2010, at her home. Born February 2, 1918 in Lawrence, MA, she was the daughter of the late John Garnett and Esther Bertha Nichols Ramsbottom and the wife of the late John Henry Nolen for 54 years. A graduate of Spartanburg High School and Converse College, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and a former member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. She was a former member of the Country Club of Spartanburg, the Piedmont Club, the Little Garden Club, the Book Reporters, the Quadrille and the Tarantella Dance Clubs. She was the co-founder of The Legal Auxiliary of Spartanburg and a member of several bridge and Bible study groups. Survivors include a son, Dr. John H. Nolen, Jr. and his wife Judy of Atlanta, GA; and a daughter, Eileen N. Rampey of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by a brother, Dr. John Garnett Ramsbottom. Cryptside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, conducted by the Rev. Susan Perrin. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Cryptside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Citizen Scholar Program, in care of the Spartanburg County Foundation, 424 East Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Mobile Meals Service, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or to a charity of one's choice. The family is at the home of her daughter, Eileen N. Rampey.
