Edythe Laurell Stephenson Wise, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Eden Terrace. The cherished wife of Robert W. Wise, for 69 years, was born in Sheridan, Wyoming, to the late Charles Stephenson and Gladys Wilson Stephenson who moved to Savannah, Georgia a short time later. It was there that Edythe grew up and married "Bobby", who remained the love of her life until her last breath. Watercolor Society, Spartanburg Artist Guild, National League of American Pen Women, and the Book Review. Publications by Mrs. Wise are "Color Historic Spartanburg" and "Color the Church of the Advent". She loved her church, The Episcopal Church of the Advent, where she attended since 1959, serving in many capacities including Bazaar Chairman. She served two terms as president of the Georgia Cleveland Home. Other memberships include the Country Club of Spartanburg, Piedmont Club, Savannah Yacht Club, the Skidaway and Oglethorpe Clubs, and the Telfair in Savannah. Mrs. Wise's award-winning artwork has been featured in many juried shows throughout the country. It is displayed at Spartanburg Medical Center, Mary Black Memorial Hospital, Piedmont Internal Medicine, Eden Terrace, The Church of the Advent, and numerous private collections. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Ange Pickens (Jim); a son, Rob Wise; grandchildren, Edy Pickens Levin (Danny), James Pickens (Kendall), Bert Pickens (Suzanne), Aimee Wise and Robert Wise, III; five great-granddaughters, Caroline, Carson, Sarah, Louisa Hays, and Goldie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
