Edwin Bryce “Buck” Thomas (90) has gone home to be with the Lord and his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Hall Thomas.
He was the son of Nettie Williams Cooper Thomas and Autis Cooper, Sr. His adoptive Father was Lawton Thomas. He is survived by two daughters Denise T. Pettibone (Bill) and Libby Nance (Steve) and a grandson Bryce Pettibone. Surviving siblings are Tim (Donna) Cooper and Charles (Ann) Thomas. He was proceeded by death by two sisters Jean T. Becker (George) and Peggy C. Watkins (Thomas) and 5 brothers Bobby (Ginny), Tommy (Phyllis), Donnie, A.T. (Judy), and Ricky Cooper.
As a young man, he served in the US Army in Germany. After finishing college and marrying, he became a teacher and football coach at Fairforest Jr. High and Roebuck High School. He, with his family, moved to Florida and fell in love with sailing. He co-designed the Compac Yacht and went on to form Buck Thomas, Inc. where he sold Compacs for Hutchins Company until he retired and moved back to SC.
To honor his service and the love Buck and Libby had for Independence Day, the family welcomes you to show your pride in America in casual and comfortable patriotic attire and bring your favorite memory of their life together to a graveside service on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tina Woody and military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 200.
