Edwin O'Shields

Edwin "Ed" Nelson O'Shields, 82, of Spartanburg, died on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his home. Born June 6, 1930, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Joseph Lanham and Pearl Cathcart O'Shields. A veteran of the U. S. Navy, Mr. O'Shields was retired from Duke Power, a graduate of Limestone College, a volunteer for Total Ministries, and also a member of SRHS Cardiac Rehab Group. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jeanne Rheney O'Shields; son, Joe O'Shields (Laura) of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Alice Sumner (Roger) of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Moody of Charlotte, NC; and sister-in-law, Doris O'Shields of Canton, GA. Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 PM Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Morningside Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Total Ministries, PO Box 3554, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at the home.
