Edward Cecil Powell, 86, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at White Oak Estates. Born February 22, 1926, in Cherokee County, SC, he was the son of the late Wade Gibson and Marie Grigg Powell. Mr. Powell was president of Thompson Brothers Exterminating and past president of the SC Pest Control Association. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, attended Cecil's Business College, and was a member of Northbrook Baptist Church where he was very active in all church affairs, including service as a former deacon and treasurer. He loved his Lord and family and his hobby was hard work and helping many in need. Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Virginia Horton Powell; son, Lynn Powell and wife Jessie of Boiling Springs; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Harrelson of Spartanburg, Beulah Turner and Eula Arrington, both of Chesnee; brother, Harold Powell of Boiling Springs; and daughter-in-law, Laine Lawson Powell of Chesnee. He was predeceased by a son, Danny Cecil Powell; brother, Odie Powell; and sister, Jeanette Moffitt. Visitation will be 9:30-10:45 AM Friday, May 25, 2012, at Northbrook Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Benny Green and the Rev. Wayne Dickard. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northbrook Baptist Church Building Fund, 1881 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
