Edward Parris

Edward Allen Parris, 93, formerly of 288 Battleground Road, Cowpens, passed away April 1, 2012, at White Oak Estates. Mr. Parris leaves behind his loving wife, Margaret Sellars Parris, who is also a resident of White Oak Estates, and with whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage on November 6, 2011. He was born on February 5, 1919, and was the only child of the late Elizabeth Newman. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Parris retired from Civil Service as an engine buildup shop supervisor, first serving at Donaldson AFB in Greenville, SC, then at Hunter AFB in Savannah, GA, and finally at Charleston AFB in Charleston, SC. He was a Mason and a Shriner, originally joining Lone Oak Masonic Lodge #372, but later transferring to Converse Lodge #343. Mr. Parris was instrumental in organizing and building the original Hilltop Fire Department and was an avid golfer until the age of 80. In addition to his wife, Mr. Parris is survived by daughters, Martha Parris Taylor (Jerry) of Spartanburg and Norma Parris Hayes (Lloyd) of Greenville; grandsons, Jerry Taylor, Jr. (Jennifer) of Cowpens, Edward Taylor (Heidi) of Boiling Springs, Lloyd E. Hayes, Jr. of North Augusta, SC, Timothy Hayes (Jenni) of Greenville and Jason Hayes (Taylor) of Mt. Pleasant; eight great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by Dr. Robert W. Kirby, Jr. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Mr. Olive Baptist Church, 250 Mr. Olive Road, Cowpens, SC 29330.
