Edward "Ed"

Edward "Ed" Allen Mattson, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, November 15, 2018, at White Oak of North Grove-Spartanburg. Born February 1, 1925, in Jamestown, NY, he was the son of the late Arvid Aaron and Marie E. Marker Mattson and husband of the late Alice Louise Paschke Mattson. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Mattson moved to South Carolina in 1951. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and retired from F. Hugh Atkins Construction. Ed was also a member of Toastmasters, a Methodist Lay Pastor, Sunday School teacher, and solo pilot. Survivors include his children, Barbara Ann Mattson of Spartanburg, SC, Lynne M. Wampler (Larrie) of Lawrenceville, GA, Diane M. Shelton (Gary) of Moore, SC, Kenneth A. Mattson (Sandra) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Paul E. Mattson (Terri) of Moore, SC; grandchildren, Claire (Tommy), Allison (Ryan), Michelle (Wayne), John (Milanna), Dustin (Carrie), and Kendyl; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Christina (Timmy), Madison, Lucas, Ellery, Kai, and Koa; and sister, Lillian M. Schutte of Holly Hill, FL. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2018, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, by The Rev. Richard Andrews. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Visitation will follow in Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 150 McKay Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
