Edward Eugene "Gene" Campsen, 76, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at his residence. Born May 8, 1938, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Frank Alford and Lillie Mae Downey Campsen. Mr. Campsen was retired from Phillips Fibers. He was a charter member of Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of Lone Oak Masonic Lodge #372. He was also a member of the Spartanburg Shrine Club where he was an active member of the Hejaz Warriors and Hillbilly Clan #2. Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Frances Thomas Campsen; daughter, Sarah Campsen Keffer (Carl) of Inman, SC; sister, Margaret Campsen Head (Gene) of Covington, GA; brothers, Larry Campsen (Donna) of Boiling Springs, SC and Doug Campsen (Gin) of Chesnee, SC; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Campsen. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Wayne Campsen. Visitation will be 2:30-3:45 PM Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Scott S. Gilmer. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
