Edna Louise Turner Atherton, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, April 9, 2018, at her home. Born August 22, 1929, in Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late W. H. and Gencie Martin Turner and widow of George Richard "Dick" Atherton. Mrs. Atherton was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. She received her teaching degree from Converse College and retired from teaching school primarily with the South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind. Survivors include her children, David W. Atherton (Sharon) of Spartanburg, SC, George R. Atherton, Jr. (Mary) of Pretoria, South Africa, and Mark E. Atherton (Elizabeth) of Kemah, TX; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 14, 2018, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by The Rev. Sal Barone. Visitation will follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to be made to Spartanburg Lions Club, PO Box 647, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
