Edith Boling Farmer, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, January 6, 2014, at Valley Falls Terrace-Spartanburg. Born January 5, 1917, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late James Carter and Eva Gossett Leister. Mrs. Farmer was a member of United Baptist Church of Spartanburg and a former member of Fairmont Baptist Church and Care Baptist Church. She was a long-time Sunday School Teacher, Baptist Training Union teacher, and leader of the WMU (Women's Missionary Union). She was employed at Fairmont Mills and retired from Spartan Mills. Survivors include her son, James A. Boling (Laurie) of Lexington, KY; sister-in-law, Mabel Tommie Boling Rogers of Moore, SC; daughters-in-law, Shirley Farmer, widow of Charles, and Fay Farmer, widow of Bobby; 15 grandchildren, Brian (Anna), Eric, David, and Kevin Boling; Casey and Brandi West; Susan Farmer Harris, Barry Farmer (Sharon) and Ray Farmer, Sheila Wofford, Kathy Tressler, Ray and Scott Hughes, Sylvia Wood, and Cindy Dill; 26 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Doss Arvil Boling; her second husband, John Paul Farmer. Visitation will be 1:00-2:30 PM Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
