Edith Burdette

Edith Gilliam Burdette, 89, of 749 California Avenue went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 29, 2015. She was born on January 9, 1926 in Spartanburg. Ms. Burdette was the daughter of Rosa Belle McSwain and Barm Bobo Gilliam. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church but had attended Spartanburg First Wesleyan Church for many years. Ms. Burdette was a homemaker and a greeter at Wal-Mart for 13 years. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Burdette McArthur of Spartanburg, and son, Jerry Ray Burdette (Carole) of Inman. She had four grandchildren; Amy McArthur Martin, Kelly Diane McArthur, Jennifer Burdette Files, and Amy Marie Cannon, as well as four great-grandchildren; Lauren Shae McArthur, Ashlyn Caroline Martin, Aidan McArthur Martin, and Allison Rae Files. Ms. Burdette is also survived by her siblings, Charles Gilliam, Vernon Gilliam, Clara Gilliam Dillard, Nathaniel Gilliam, and Jerry Gilliam. She is predeceased by her husband, Dwight Wayne Burdette, brothers, Boyd Gilliam and Max Gilliam; sisters Lucille Gilliam Bridges and Francis Gilliam, and children, Trudy Diane Burdette and Baby boy Burdette. A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 PM Monday, June 1, 2015 after receiving of friends and family from 2:00 - 2:45 PM at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316, conducted by the Rev. Preston Edmonds and the Rev. Gary Long. Interment will follow at Floyd's Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
