Edith Blalock

Edith W. Blalock, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Pacifica Senior Living Skylyn – Spartanburg. Born June 9, 1925 in Union SC, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Lee Pinson and Charlie Stough Walker and the wife of the late Clyde Wilbur Blalock, Jr. for 65 years.

Edith graduated from Union High School and attended Limestone College. She worked at Camp Croft during WWII for AT&T, formerly Southern Bell, retiring after 34 years of service.

A devoted volunteer with Mobile Meals, she was a member of The Pioneers in Spartanburg. A very giving person, of her time and especially her love. Earlier in her life, she always had a garden. Edith loved the beach, especially Garden City and traveled with her husband around the world. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Marion Walker McGaha of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Josephine and John Seay of Roebuck, SC; nieces and nephews, Pam Walker, Marsha McGaha Sherrill (Bo), Don McGaha (Dianne), Mitzi McGaha Mayhew (Chris), Benjie Layton (Diana), Jennifer Walker Brown (Benjy), Joy Foster, Kenneth Walker (Kendra), Madge Walker, Ann Price Mayfield; great nieces and nephews, Selwyn Sherrill Bogdziewicz (Billy), Sarah Sherrill Adams (Greg), Benjamin Walker Brown, Tiffany Atkinson, Zack Atkinson, Alex Atkinson, Mark Smith, Kendrick Walker, and Kenneisha Walker; along with many other nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Calvin S. Walker, Jessie P. “Bud” Walker, Lionel “Jim” Walker, Bruce Walker Price, Sr.; and her sisters, Ruth Walker Layton, Louise Walker Foster, and Dot Walker Hamilton.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Tommy Sparks. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
