Edgar Hodge

Edgar Mason Hodge, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital-Spartanburg. Born January 3, 1933, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late George K. and Exie Lands Hodge. A U. S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Hodge was a retired Civil Service aircraft mechanic and small aircraft pilot and hobbiest who built, owned, and operated a Cessna airplane. He was a Master Mason for 50 years, a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Post #28. An avid banjo and guitar player, as well as instructor, he was also a bluegrass band member. He was a passionate gardener and enjoyed canning as well as wine making and mechanics. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Sarah Harling Hodge; children, Robert Mason Hodge Sr. (Brenda) of Pacolet, SC, Stanley Joe Hodge of Spartanburg, SC, Sarah Ann Betcke of Pauline, SC, and Kenneth Wayne Hodge of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Christina Lynn Vera, Rob Hodge II, Brenda Lee Tellez, Mark Mason Hodge, Denise Ann McMullan, Amanda Sue Hodge, and Krystle Louise Dimas; nine great-grandchildren; brother, David Elliot Hodge of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Toni Robertson of N. Augusta, SC; and several half-brothers and sisters. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Leland P. Hodge. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Paul Manis. Burial, with military rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
