Eddie Thompson, Sr.

Eddie Barney Thompson, Sr., 75, of 834 Winter Hawk Circle, Inman, died Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born March 13, 1936, in Union County, SC, he was a son of the late Eddie William and Pearl Kathleen Horne Thompson. He was an employee with Furman Babb Painting Contractors for almost 40 years, attended Liberty Baptist Church in Inman, and was a Shriner and a member of Inman Lodge, #201 AFM. He served in the South Carolina National Guard. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Gladys Ann McCombs Thompson; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Crane of Chesnee and Patricia Diane Rutledge of the home; three sons, Eddie Barney Thompson, Jr., Glenn Thompson, and Herbert Paul Thompson, all of Inman; two sisters, Shirley Lancaster of Jonesville, SC and Louise Grady of Union, SC; three brothers, Fred Thompson of Aiken, SC, Ralph Thompson and Harold Thompson, both of Jonesville, SC; sixteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Thompson was predeceased by a son, Robert Glenn Thompson; a sister, Dorothy Robinson; and a brother, Bobby Thompson. Masonic Rites will be 6:00 PM Sunday, December 4, 2011, followed by visitation until 8:00 PM at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 5, 2011, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, conducted by Pastor David R. Duncan. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home.
