Eddie Mills

Eddie Joel Mills, 78, of 319 Earl Drive, died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at his home. Born August 6, 1931, in Cullowhee, NC, he was the son of the late Alvin Lucious and Bessie Hoxyt Mills. He was raised by his step-mother, the late Mamie Ashe Mills. He was a member of Evangel Cathedral, retired from Butte Knit, and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Joe was a very selfless man who always put the needs of others first and was very devoted to his family. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Baker Mills; a daughter, Marie Mills of Charleston; a son, Joel Baker Mills of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Bessie Jean Ammons of Cullowhee, NC; and a brother, James Mills of Marion, NC. He was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Hoyle; and a brother, Herbert Mills. Visitation will be 12:45-1:45 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Janice King. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Evangel Cathedral Building Fund, 500 Evangel Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301; to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615; or to the charity of one's choice.
