Earle Lineberger

Earle M. Lineberger, 88, of 1 Parkins Place, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. He was the husband of the late Frances Gallivan Lineberger and the son of the late Earle McCorkle and Ruth Gaillard Lineberger. Known as "Mr. Earle" "Papa" and "Gramps", he was a general building contractor and a farmer for over 60 years in the Greenville area. He was a charter member of the Greenville Gun Club and a member of The Cotillion and Poinsette Club and numerous hunting clubs. He served in the United States Navy (SeaBee's) in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. A graduate of Riverside Military Academy, his passion included hunting and fishing and he competed in national competition and held numerous state marksmanship titles. He is survived by two daughters, Susan McCall Lineberger of Greenville and Frances Jane Pridgeon (Doug) of Spartanburg; two sons, Earle McCorkle Lineberger Jr. (Lyn Welborn) of Ninety Six and Arthur Henry Lineberger of Pawleys Island; two half-brothers, J. Donnald Dobbins of Murrells Inlet and Edgar E. Dobbins of Greenville; four grandchildren, Josh and Joseph L. Workman, Liza Johnson and Arthur Lineberger, Jr.; three step grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jessie Lineberger Sitton, one brother Arthur Henry Lineberger, one half brother, W. Richard Dobbins, a grandson, Jesse Daniel Workman and a granddaughter, Jessie Lauren Lineberger. The family wishes to thank the caregivers, Margaret Gaines, Angela Bartlett, Gerard McCullough, Tim Allen, and Open Arms Hospice and the Visiting Angels for all their love and kindness over the last year. A Celebration of Life graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. today Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Springwood Cemetery in Greenville, conducted by A. Gordon Floyd and Miss Margaret Gaines. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Open Arms Hospice, Bon Secours Health System, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680-9984; or to a charity of one's choice.
