Earl Gowan

Thomas Earl Gowan, 85, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at White Oak Estates. Born May 14, 1924, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Charlie Alberry and Annie Maude O'Shields Gowan. He was retired from Arkwright Mill and was a member of Southside Baptist Church and the Layman Sunday School Class. Survivors include a sister, Annie Gowan Porter of Spartanburg; nieces and nephews, Peggy Gowan Gregory, Barbara Gowan Alley, James C. "Jimmie" Gowan, Jr., and Janice Gowan Jones; eleven great-nieces and nephews; and a number of great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, James Charlie "J.C." Gowan, Clifford Wilson "Pete" Gowan, and Joseph Manning Gowan; and a nephew, Jerry Manning Gowan. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. David M. Blanton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary Escort will be members of the Layman Sunday School Class.
