Eber Wilbur Helderman, 88, of Moore, died Friday, January 19, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. A native of Spartanburg County he was a son of the late Nannie L. Greer.
He was a graduate of Fairforest High School and Cecil’s Business College, served in the US Air Force and retired as a Captain from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department after 30 years of service. He was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church and a former member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was a member of the Golden Age seniors. He was a member of the Peach Blossom Antique Car Club. He loved restoring antique cars, often attending and participating in car shows. He loved traveling with his family while vacationing throughout the United States driving every mile. He played guitar and banjo and enjoyed playing with various musical groups. He was a huge animal lover, never without a pet, welcoming and feeding all wildlife that came to his yard.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 65 years, Patricia Gayle Sherbert Helderman; a loving father to his daughter and son in law , Donna H. Fazzone (Paul); granddaddy to Stephanie Fazzone Broome (Kirk), Michael Anthony Fazzone; great granddaddy to Ethan Bradly Broome. He is also survived by his niece, Ann Hall Price and his special feline baby “Charlie”. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Hall.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Roebuck Baptist Church, 1979 East Blackstock Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm in the church sanctuary conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tim Williams and Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Roebuck Baptist Church of or to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
