E. Lewis Miller, 86, of 1155 Woodburn Road, Spartanburg, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born June 25, 1925, in Pauline, he was a son of the late Stuart Nicholas and Virginia Morrow Miller and husband of the late Lucile Atkins Miller. Mr. Miller was CEO of Southeastern Paper Group and was also chairman of Network Associates from 1977 to 1979. He served on the Spartanburg City Council from 1978 to 1981 and was mayor of Spartanburg from 1981-1989. In 1989 he received the Order of Palmetto from Governor Carroll Campbell and was also selected as the Kiwanis Club Citizen of the Year. He was a member of the Spartanburg Lions Club and former president of the Spartanburg Jaycees. The E. Lewis Miller Park on Main Street was named in his honor for his dedicated service to the community. He graduated from Pauline High School in 1942, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of Southside Baptist Church. Survivors include sons, Terry S. Miller of Browns Summit, NC and E. Lewis Miller, Jr. (Marie) of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Benjamin Lewis Miller (Adrienne Kirsten) and Andrew James Miller; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Lewis Miller, Jr. and William Stuart Miller; step-grandchildren, Michelle Jones and Kimberly Taylor (J.C.); step-great-grandchildren, John Rivers Taylor and Lyndsey Atkins; stepson, John Wright (Lois Ann) of Spartanburg; stepdaughters, Lucy Ann Barry (Mark) of Spartanburg and Libby Scott (Lesesne) of Jonesville; five additional step-grandchildren; brothers, William L. Miller of Cedar Ridge, CO and George N. Miller of Abbeville; sisters, Elizabeth M. Gossett of Inman, Patricia M. Compos of Pauline, Jane M. Waters (Jackie) of New Bern, NC, and Eleanor M. Youngblood (Harold) of Buffalo; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Littlejohn. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
