Dudley L. Myers of Spartanburg passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Mr. Myers was born to Toyce and Presley Levi Myers in Wilkesboro, NC on October 6, 1935. As a youth his entrepreneurial spirit showed itself early as he delivered the town paper on bicycle and maintained the sanctuary of the Wilkesboro Baptist Church. Later, he managed the Wilkesboro High School football team and was an enthusiastic member of the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
After high school Mr. Myers served in a civil engineer battalion in the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, West Germany. He was a member of the rifle squad and won awards for marksmanship. He met and married his lifelong partner, best friend, and wife Ann in 1960, after which he worked as an architectural draftsman in a variety of firms in Winston Salem, NC, and Knoxville and Kingsport, TN. In Spartanburg, he worked with the firms of Lockwood and Greene, and Prather, Thomas, and Campbell Engineers.
In 1971 Mr. Myers bought the Christman and Parsons Construction Company in Spartanburg. Over the next 30 years he employed scores of the city’s best construction tradesmen to build commercial buildings all around the Upstate area. In 2001 Mr. Myers and Ann retired from the construction business to Edisto Island, SC where he pursued his favorite activities of fishing, shrimping, crabbing, and beachcombing.
Through the years between 1978 and 2023 Mr. Myers and Ann dedicated themselves to the care of their youngest son Wil, who was injured in a motorbike accident. Their unceasing love for, selfless care of, and devotion to Wil was an inspiration to all who saw it.
Mr. Myers was the oldest of four siblings and is preceded in eternal rest by his son Wilburn Presley Myers of Spartanburg, his parents Toyce and Presley Myers, and his brother John Myers, all of Wilkesboro, NC. He is survived by Ann Myers, his devoted wife of 64 years, of Spartanburg; son Richard and daughter-in-law Ester of Washington, DC; brother Bill Myers of Wilkesboro, NC; and sister Lois Ann Partridge of Charlotte, NC.
Mr. Myers was a lifelong supporter of the National Rifle Association and conservative causes. He loved “real” country and gospel music from the 1950s and earlier. He was a skilled carpenter and craftsman and built some of the furniture for his home. He leaves behind many wonderful memories; grateful employees and clients from his years at the helm of Christman and Parsons Construction Company; and a grieving family.
