Dr. John Stowell, Jr.

Dr. John C. Stowell, Jr. 78, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, October 31, 2022 at his home. Born February 25, 1944 in McComb, MS, he was the son of the late Grace Alyne Love Stowell and John C. Stowell, Sr.

A US Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, Dr. Stowell was retired as a surgeon and physician. He loved God, country, family and friends. Fishing, shag dancing, and growing tomatoes were his favorite things to do, but being a surgeon was his calling.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lowe Stowell; children, Ian Douglas Stowell (Lisa) of Chesnee, SC, Meagan Stowell Gerhardt (Ken) of New Bern, NC, Shannon Stowell Sparks of Inman, SC and Jonathan C. Stowell (Jenny) of Traverse City, MI; 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; his brother, Mike Stowell (Kaye) of Starkville, MS; along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 12:00 – 1:30 pm Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Graveside service with Military Honors will be at 2:00 pm in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Sal Barone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
