Dr. Harold Keith Broome, 84, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, March 24, 2023 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born October 17, 1938 in Lockhart, SC, he was the son of the late William Rufus and Lula Mae Burns Broome and the husband of the late Johnnie Lee Freeman Broome.
Dr. Broome was a longtime principal and Assistant Superintendent in Spartanburg School District Six and was a retired Superintendent of Schools in Union and Cherokee Counties. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, a past member of Spartanburg Lions Club and the Union County Chamber of Commerce, and past member of the Roebuck Improvement Association.
Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth B. McDaniel (Connor) of Inman, SC, Lisa B. Harbin (Heath) of Jonesville, SC, and Janet B. Hall (Jason) of Duncan, SC; five grandchildren, Michael Noble (Casey), Hammond Hall, Garrett Hall, Breanna Harbin and Brody Harbin; five great grandchildren; and his brother, Tommy Broome (Joyce) of Union, SC. He was predeceased by a grandson, Chris Noble and his brothers, Danny Broome and Jimmy Broome.
A Memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023 at St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N. Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301, conducted by The Rev. Andrew Wolfe, The Rev. Monty King, and The Rev. Dr. Wayne Dickard. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 213 N. Lanford Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
