Dr. Sharon E. Lambert of White Oaks, Spartanburg, SC passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Sharon was the daughter of the late John Stuart Lambert and Dorothy Spears Lambert. She was raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and spent summers on the New Jersey shore. Sharon graduated from Moravian Preparatory School in Bethlehem, PA, Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Virginia and received her doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1973. After completing post-doctoral studies at the University of Vermont, Sharon accepted a teaching position in the Chemistry Department of Converse College where she would remain for 33 years. During her tenure at Converse, Dr. Lambert was appointed Divisional Coordinator for Science and Math in 1986 and served as Chair of the Department of Chemistry from 1998 - 2006. In 2006, Dr. Lambert was granted the status of Professor Emerita of Chemistry at Converse College by the Board of Trustees. Sharon was a member of many search committees for administrative and faculty positions at Converse. She co-authored several successful grants for the Chemistry Department as well as served as Grants Officer for the College; served two terms as President of the Faculty Senate and Chair of the Tenure and Promotions Committee; and received the Kathryne Amelia Brown Award for Excellence in Teaching. Sharon also held a one year administrative position as Interim Vice President for Campus Life and Dean of Students. Dr. Lambert was an inspiring and encouraging teacher and served as a wonderful role model for both faculty and students alike. Dr. Lambert was a member of the American Chemical Society, The Society of Sigma Xi and the South Carolina Academy of Sciences. Since her retirement in 2006, Sharon enjoyed traveling to Edisto Beach and Ocean City, NJ with friends and family. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. Sharon is survived by her aunt, Emily Spears; and cousins, Linda Famigletti (Art), Sheila Goldschnieder (Ed), Susan Hanson (Kevin), Harry Grauling (Liza), John Spears (Cheryl), Joe Spears (Paula), David Spears, Craig Spears (Melody), Betsy Vary (Andrew Mercogliano), Nancy Vary, and George Vary (Liz). Visitation will be 10:00-11:15 AM Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Neal Y. Woods. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
