Dr. Robert Duren Johnson, Sr., 91, of Clinton, SC, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Laurens County Memorial Hospital. Born August 9, 1922, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William Jones and Susan Jordan Johnson, and husband of the late Edna Ruth Hudson Johnson. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, Dr. Johnson served as a radar repairman, as a dentist in the U. S. Army Reserves for 32 years, and retired as a Colonel. He was a member of the American Dental Association, SC Dental Association, and a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and the Daytime Lions Club International of Spartanburg. He was a 1948 graduate of Wofford College and received his dental degree from the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry. Among survivors are two sons, Dr. Robert Duren Johnson, Jr. (Deborah) of Lancaster, SC, and Dr. William Samuel Johnson (Suzanne) of Winnsboro, SC; two granddaughters, Shannon M. Johnson of Irmo, SC, and Stacy L. Johnson of Winnsboro, SC; and a great-grandson, Jackson W. Johnson of Winnsboro, SC. Private cryptside services will be conducted in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum by the Rev. Debbie Johnson.
