Donald Elon Johnson, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born August 25, 1930, in Ohio Grove Township, IL, he was the son of the late Lawrence Carlyle and Dora Sell Johnson. Dr. Johnson was a professor of Rural Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a past District Governor of the Wisconsin Lions, and a member of the Cottage Grove Lions Club for over 30 years. He was also an avid crossword puzzle worker and sports fan. Survivors include his partner in service, Edwina Otto of the home; daughter, Pamela Rathbun of Madison, WI; sons, J. C. Johnson of New Lisbon, WI, Alan Johnson of DeForest, WI, Roger Johnson of Palm Desert, CA, and Charles Johnson of Madison, WI; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Lamar Johnson of Waunakee, WI; Catherine Buck Johnson; and five nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Carlyle Johnson. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, 3834 County Road A, Rosholt, WI 54473.
