Dr. William Robert "Bob" Hudgens, 79, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 31, 1931 in Laurens, he was the son of the late Roy and Ruth Couch Hudgens. He was a pediatrician for 41 years and was retired from Pediatric Associates. He graduated from Laurens High School, Furman University in 1953, and the Medical University of South Carolina in 1957. He served his internship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, and his residency in pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for 41 years and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Roubion Hudgens; two sons, William Robert "Bobby" Hudgens, Jr. and his wife Angie of Spartanburg and David Roubion Hudgens and his wife Donna of Abingdon, VA; three grandchildren, Erin Hudgens, Claire Hudgens, and Shawn Simons; and a brother, Richard Hudgens of Laurens. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 A.M. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in the Fellowship Hall of Central United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 in the sanctuary of the church, conducted by the Rev. Luther H. Rickenbaker, III. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
