Dr. Richard "Dick" Emmett Plummer, 69, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Monday, April 18, 2016, at his home. Born December 31, 1946, in Harlem, NY, he was the son of the late George V. and Betty Voorhees Plummer and husband of the late JoAnn Marie Fickert Plummer. A U. S. Army veteran, Dr. Plummer was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where he was a member of the School Board from 1982-1987. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus - 3rd Degree, past president of Spartanburg Freewheelers, and was instrumental in establishing the Carolina Pregnancy Center in 1987. He was a graduate of Chiropractic Studies at Sherman College of Chiropractic SC and Undergraduate Studies at Bergen Community College, NJ. Dr. Plummer was a former associate professor at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic and served on the administration for five years as Dean of Continuing Education at Sherman College. He also served as Director of Alumni Affairs, Student Recruitment and Fundraising for SCSC, and retired from his private practice of 33 years at Springfield Straight Chiropractic Offices in Boiling Springs. From 1990-1999 he served on the SC Board of Chiropractic Examiners. During his career, he also served on the postgraduate faculty for both Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic and Life University, as an instructor for the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, past vice president, Board member at large, and Chairman of the Board for the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations (FSCO), nine terms as a member of the Sherman College Distinguished Board of Regents, and past president of Patient Association of Chiropractic Education (PACE) as well as the Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic Alumni Association. He was also past president of Student Fellowship of Straight Chiropractic, co-founder of Chiropractic Health Information Research Organization, Chiropractic Career Advisor of SCSC, past president of the Palmetto Straight Chiropractic Council, past vice chairman of the South Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and chairman of the Federation of Straight Chiropractors of SC. He was also host and producer of the weekly television program, "Chiropractic Today", as well as producer and commentator for the weekly radio program, "Straight Talk on Health", having appeared on more than 600 radio and TV programs throughout the country discussing chiropractic health. He also developed and directed the Springfield Chiropractic Services and Success Secrets Seminars. Survivors include his children, Kathleen Plummer Maddaloni (Claudio) and Christopher Plummer (DeeAnne), all of Boiling Springs, SC, and Shawn Plummer of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Coleman, Zachary, Avery, Rilee Grace, and Hayden Plummer; sisters, Mary Plummer Wren, Betty Anne Plummer, Patty Plummer Richards, and Bobbi Jean Plummer; brothers, John Plummer and David Plummer; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Terry Plummer. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy 9 N, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, April 22, 2016, at Historic St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N. Dean St., Spartanburg, SC 29316, by the Rev. David R. Whitman. Burial, with military rites, will be in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, 4081 Hwy 9 N, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School, 152 Alabama Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at their respective homes.
