Dr. Burrell

Dr. Lucia S. Burrell, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. A native of Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John and Jane Skalski, and the widow of Dr. Paul Digby Burrell, Jr. Dr. Burrell was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the WMU. She attended Berea College and graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. Upon her marriage to Paul, she moved to Spartanburg where they established Burrell Optometrists. She was a lifelong member of the South Carolina Optometric Association. For many years, she was an active member of the Spartanburg Business & Professional Women's Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her daughters, Holly B. Bomar (Leland) and Laura B. Bannan (Jim); daughter-in-law, Betsy Bean Burrell; grandchildren, Halina Riddle, Robert Bannan (Holly), John Burrell (Jessica Reynolds), Melody Riddle Clifford (Jared), Russell Bannan, Carra Bannan, and Amy Burrell; step-grandchildren, Stirling Bomar (Jill), Martha Bomar (Josh Linder), Ann Bomar Caudle (Lawrence), John Bomar (Kaitlin), and Elizabeth Bomar; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hattie Bannan; and step-great-grandchildren, Mae Bomar , Jack and Jude Linder. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Dr. Timothy Paul Burrell; and brothers, Dr. Zane Skalski and Dr. Val Skalski. The family will receive friends 3:00-5:00 PM Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the home of Holly and Leland Bomar, 107 Briarwood Ct., Spartanburg, SC 29302. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Dr. Schyler Peterson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Pallbearers are Dr. Burrell's grandsons, John Burrell, Robert and Russell Bannan, and her nephews, Wesley, Chris, and Mark Burrell.
