Douglas Ridley

Douglas Roger Ridley, 78, of 283 Harrell Drive, died July 18, 2010, at his home. Born July 11, 1932, in Salem, SC, he was the husband of the late Doris Spurlock Ridley for 53 years and the son of the late Walter Davis and Dora Lee Rogers Ridley. He was a graduate of Salem High School and attended Central Wesleyan College (now Southern Wesleyan University). He retired from Milliken & Company, after thirty-nine years of service in various areas in management, the last being Computer Systems Analyst working with the 14 Finishing Plants in Milliken. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served 20 years as Usher Captain, was the Elementary Sunday School Coordinator for 20 years, served as a volunteer in the Church Welcome Center, as Chairperson of the Administrative Board, as a member of the Pastoral Counseling and served as wedding coordinator and member of the wedding committee. He was a member of the John Nicholson Sunday School Class, where he served one year as class secretary. He also served as a lay person at the 2007 SC Methodist Church Annual Conference. He and his late wife were Methodist Youth Coordinators. They were members of several Ballroom Dance Clubs, including being Charter Members of the Trianon Dance Club in Maudlin, where he served two different terms as President, and were also members of the See Saw Squares Dance Club and the Rhythm and Blues Shag Club. Survivors include two sons, Michael Anthony Ridley and his wife Kathryn of Odessa, TX, and Barry Keith Ridley and Laura Ferguson Robinson of Spartanburg; and a daughter, Sheri Renee' Ridley Smith and partner, Sheri Coleman of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Joshua Keith Ridley and his wife Kelly of Lexington, SC, Amanda Ridley Ledbetter and her husband Jay of Simpsonville, SC, Douglas Roger Ridley II (Chip) of Spartanburg, Summer Renee' Smith of Atlanta, GA, and Alexander Ryan Smith of St. Louis, MO; and three great granddaughters, Delaney and Reagan Ridley of Lexington, SC and Ellie Ledbetter of Simpsonville. Also surviving are Sheri Coleman's daughter, Christi McCartha and her husband James and their three daughters; a sister, Doris Ridley Moore of Salem, SC; and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Heather Humphries and the Rev. Dr. Steve Holler. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 626 Norwood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
