Douglas Armstrong Mahan, 62, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at McDowell Hospital, NC. Born April 23, 1951, in Melrose, MA, and raised in Hamilton, MA, he was the son of Marjorie MacLachlan Mahan of Hamilton, MA, and the late Alexis Armstrong Mahan, Jr. He graduated in 1973 from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. After graduating he moved to Spartanburg, SC and started his own business, Carolina Imports. Doug was considered a business leader in the community and an avid golfer. He enjoyed traveling and spent the winter season in Sydney, Australia. He was a member of Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, SC, Diamond Creek Golf Club in Banner Elk, NC, New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney, Australia, and The Hideout Golf Club in Naples, FL. Survivors include his sons, Elliott Armstrong Mahan of Moore, SC, and Alexander Michael Mahan of Lexington, SC; a brother, Alexander MacLachlan Mahan (Johanna) of Hollywood, FL; and two sisters, Gail (Len) Johnson of Boone, NC, and Gwendolyn (Terry) Ryan of Gloucester, MA; nieces, Heather Strickler (Scott) of Pisgah Forest, NC, Lyndsay Johnson of Durham, NC and Caroline; and nephews, Franklin and Aiden. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, September 6, 2013, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Douglas A.
