Douglas Edwards

Douglas Charles Edwards, 79, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his home. Born August 17, 1935, in Jefferson, GA, he was the son of the late Samuel Preston Edwards and Della Orilla Church Edwards. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A U. S. Army veteran and lover of antiques, woodworking, and canines, Mr. Edwards retired from Spartanburg School District #6 and was also the owner of Edward's Kountry Furniture & Antiques. He was a member of United Baptist Church (formerly Hayne), American Legion Post #28, and the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra June Hancock Edwards; sons, Michael P. Edwards and Jeffery L. Edwards (Linda), all of Spartanburg; grandson, David Edwards of Spartanburg; special sisters-in-law, Deanna Hillman of Commerce City, CO and Lois Edwards of Jefferson, GA; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved canines, Sissy, Charlie Brown, Tinkerbell, and Taco. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, June 15, 2015, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, by the Rev. Robert Emory and Chaplain Gary Jordan. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Post #28, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
