Spartanburg lost a true gem with the passing of Dorthy Thompson Wyatt, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Dorthy (‘Dot’) went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, surrounded in love and care by her family. Dorthy was born in Madison, West Virginia on December 4, 1936, where she brought joy and warmth into the lives of her parents, Boyd Harvey Thompson, Sr. and Hazel Mae Huffman Thompson.
Dot’s legacy extends beyond her professional career as a beautician; she was a devoted matriarch whose love knew no bounds. Her kitchen was not just a place for cooking but a sanctuary where family dinners turned into cherished memories. She had a special knack for spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with boundless love and affection, creating an enduring bond that will be forever treasured.
Known for her humor, trustworthiness, and generosity, Dot’s vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. She was a trusted friend and hair stylist who graced the community for over 30 years. Her passion for travel was unparalleled, especially when accompanied by her husband, Bill, or dear sister, Mary. Together, they explored the world creating unforgettable moments filled with laughter and joy and sharing those travels with friends.
In the presence of grieving hearts, Dorthy is survived by her three sons, Jeffery Thompson (Cindy), John W. Wyatt, Jr. (Angela), and James "Jim" Wyatt (Laura); grandchildren, Jeremy Thompson, (Laura), Phillip Wyatt, (Jenna), Jessica T. Henn (Ryan), Tyler Wyatt, (Hillary), Stormie Wyatt, Tanner Wyatt, (Emery), Zack Wyatt, (Logan), and Samuel Wyatt, (Carleigh); eleven great-grandchildren; four siblings: Jon E. Thompson, Boyd Thompson Jr., Mary Thompson-Ridenour, Carl Thompson; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband, John "Bill" Wyatt, Sr.
The family will receive friends at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel for visitation on Monday, July 8th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Her funeral service will take place at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 9th at 10:30 AM followed by burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg at 12:00 PM.
Dorthy Thompson Wyatt will forever be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and the unwavering love she showered upon all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her soul rest in eternal peace as her beautiful spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
The family would like to thank the staff of Valley Falls Terrace for their loving and consistent care of Dot over the time she was with them.
